Runners and Drivers: Stay Safe with these Tips from Extra Mile Fitness Company

Hey Runners! Daylight becomes a rare commodity as fall and winter descend on Northwest Indiana. After beating the heat with early-morning runs all summer, for the next few months runners will be hard-pressed to find a time to run with sunlight. Don’t hope that drivers will be looking out for you, make yourselves seen! The RRCA advises runners to wear reflective material when running before dawn or after dusk. Make yourself as visible as possible by wearing several points of light and a combination of reflective material and LED lights. At the Extra Mile we carry everything you need to be seen: reflective jackets and vests; LED light spurs from Nathan; and flashing and strobe light clip-ons.

Keep Your Eyes Open! Drivers Be Aware of Runners
Hey Drivers! During winter, you often go to work and come home in the dark. But cars and trucks aren’t the only ones on the road. Please, be mindful and considerate of the runners (and cyclists) sharing the road with you. Drive with your lights on when the sun isn’t up, and keep your eyes peeled for runners along the shoulder. They’re working hard to train through the winter, and appreciate every courtesy you give them. Slow down, wait to pass if cars are coming from the other direction, and give runners a little extra space as you pass each other.
