On Thursday, January 17 the Duneland Family YMCA will hold an open house highlighting programs designed for Duneland Seniors that are planned for 2013. The open house will begin with the launch of a Senior Center held 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM that is free to the public. After opening day, the Senor Center will be open Monday - Friday. Coffee, activities, and games will be provided; however, participants are encouraged to make program suggestions.
At that time, the Duneland Y will begin offering the Healthways Silver Sneakers Fitness Program for adults 65+ and other individuals who have been declared Medicare-eligible. Participants will receive a Membership to the Y subsidized through this program.
In conjunction with the Silver Sneakers Fitness Program a Silver Sneakers Muscular Strength and Range of Motion class will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30-11:30 AM in the Fitness Room. This class is complimentary with a membership and through the Silver Sneakers Fitness Program. If a participant is not a member the cost will be $2 per class. This class is designed to increase strength, range of motion, agility, balance and coordination, and to improve participants' functional capacities, physical fitness level and sense of well-being.
During the open house, a Senior Luncheon will be held at Noon in the Community Room. Participants are asked to bring a dish to share.
