Rittenhouse Celebrates Residents and Families with 2014 Cookout and Picnic

On Saturday July 19th, the residents of Rittenhouse Senior Living in Valparaiso had their yearly cookout and picnic to celebrate the summer. Residents invited their families and friends to come enjoy some grilled food, live entertainment and antique cars at the facility. The party was a 50’s 60’s Sock Hop theme and approximately 300 residents and families attended.

Activities Director of Rittenhouse, Silvia Stockmen, coordinated the event in conjunction with Chef JoAnn Quade and other staff members to ensure that the residents and their families were well fed and entertained. The Winamac Old Auto Club also attended with 17 antique cars on display for the families to enjoy. A DJ as well as live musical entertainment by Paul and Kim Vogrin were available for the guests and the Bonner Center Dancers made an appearance and danced. Children’s activities included a piñata, sidewalk chalk, bubbles and a root beer float stand.

“It was just awesome to see everyone enjoying themselves,” said Stockman, “everything just came together perfectly and I would like to thank everyone who showed up and joined us for this special day. Looking forward to next year’s picnic, but it is going to be hard to top this year!”

Executive Director of Rittenhouse Valparaiso, Debby Atsas, feels it is important to hold a yearly event that celebrates the residents and includes their family and friends. “We made sure there was something for everyone,” said Atsas, “This is the residents’ home and just like entertaining for a family cookout, we made sure we covered the essentials so everyone enjoyed themselves. The families really look forward to this every year. It’s a nice tradition and a great way to give back to the residents.”
