Life Care Center of Valparaiso is Surrounded by Fun Activities

The Life Care Center of Valparaiso is a long-term care facility that goes above and beyond the expectations of a regular care center. The Life Care Center of Valparaiso is centrally located in the city in order to be close to a lot of fun events, activities, and welcoming places and to bring a positive vibe to the residents and families around the facility.

In the summer, one of the most attractive places to visit near Valparaiso is the Indiana Dunes. Along with spending time at the beach, the Dunes offer outdoor activities such as bicycling, bird watching, fishing, hiking, paddling, and the 3 Dune Challenge. The 3 Dune Challenge includes climbing up the three tallest sand dunes at the State Park. The challenge is 1.5 miles long with 552 vertical feet of climbing, earning the reward of breathtaking views and the ‘Dune Conqueror’ title. The Dunes also has many other trails around the park that offer beautiful views and a great experience without being challenging, so that seniors can enjoy light exercise.

Other outdoor places to visit include Ogden Gardens Park and Gabis Arboretum, both located in Valparaiso. Ogden Gardens is a 4-acre floral display located at Campbell Street and Harrison Boulevard. The garden offers beautiful annuals, perennials, rose gardens, shrub beds, and a large variety of trees. Ogden Gardens also proudly features a Japanese Garden which opened in May of 2005, and it offers trails, streams, bridges, ponds and a tea house where visitors can enjoy koi fish swimming in the pond. Gabis Arboretum is a 300-acre oak preserve of formal gardens, woodlands, wetlands, prairies and hiking trails and provides an enriching, natural habitat for public, educational, conservation, and recreational use. The Arboretum also displays a seasonal Railway Garden from April through October. The Railway Garden is an outdoor garden-scale model train garden that tells the story of America’s steam engine history and its impact on the United States Civil War, expansion west, and the industrial revolution. The garden landscape is a varying topography of mountains, canyons and prairies, and it is home to a large collection of miniature conifers.

During the colder months and winter season, Valparaiso also offers a great variety of experiences that take place indoors. One indoor attraction includes the Memorial Opera House, which is celebrating its 125th year anniversary this year. The Opera House was built in 1893 as a memorial to Civil War veterans, and is now a historic landmark theatre. At the Memorial Opera House, their mission is to use theatre and the arts to build community and create a sense of belonging.

The Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University is another indoor attraction. The museum has a collection of over 4,000 works of art from the mid-19th century to present day, as well as world religious art and Midwestern regional art. Throughout the year, The Brauer Museum of Art opens its galleries to the public to view various collections and special displays, and all exhibits and events are free to the public.

The Life Care Center of Valparaiso is surrounded by a great community and an area that is home to a variety of different events catering to anyone's interests, especially those looking for fun that is rejuvenating, relaxing, or provides a touchstone to the past.
