The 3rd Annual Senior Health Fair at Banta was a Success with Many Screenings and Resources for Seniors

The 3rd Annual Senior Health Fair was held on Friday, June 4th at the Village Park Enrichment Center at Banta in Valparaiso. Health-Fair-HH-2010-013 The event was put on by a partnership between Home Helpers and Village Park.  Kathleen Luken, owner of Home Helpers, said “we invest in this event because so many of our clients that we care for in their homes could have managed their health better if they had received screenings and referrals earlier”. 

The Health Fair had several valuable screenings that were free of charge and available on the spot.  Peripheral Arterial Disease Screenings, Glucose Screenings, Cholesterol Screenings, Stroke Risk Assessments, and Cancer Risk Assessments were provided by Methodist Hospital.  Bone Density tests were done by Porter Hospital,  Foot Screenings were done by  Family Foot and Ankle Clinic, Blood Pressure screenings were done  by Amedisys, and Visual Acuity Screenings were done by LTF Eye Clinic.  Other vendors included: Brookdale Senior Living, St. Agnes Day Service, Asera Care Hospice, Healthcare Advocacy Group, Life Care Center, Dr. Comfort, Doctors Plus, Rittenhouse, Total Home Health, Valparaiso Library, Graceland Cemeteries, East Wind Acupuncture, Health Linc, Rehab Driving, Porter County Triad, Beltone, Select Physical Therapy, Millers Senior Living, Lupus Foundation, Home Helpers, and The Pines Village Retirement Communities.

Refreshments were sponsored by Life Care of the Willows and Trinity Home Care.  Several nursing students from Valparaiso University were also present to assist with the screening process.  Next year’s Health Fair will be in June of 2011.  If you are interested in participating, please contact Home Helpers at 219-548-1918.
