Porter-Starke Services Receives Three-Year Accreditation

Porter-Starke Services, a not-for-profit community mental health center, has been notified that the organization was awarded a three-year accreditation through the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an independent nonprofit accrediting body that develops and maintains consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services.

The three-year accreditation received by Porter-Starke represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization.

Porter-Starke also received recognition for its exemplary performance in key areas, including the organization’s free community education services; expansion of primary medical care to its clients through its partnership with HealthLinc, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC); and providing counseling services to youth through its partnership with Porter County Educational Services.

We take pride in the quality of services our organization delivers,” said Rocco Schiralli, President/CEO of Porter-Starke Services. “But when we’re performing above and beyond these standards, I believe that truly shows Porter-Starke’s commitment to excellent service for our clients and community,” said Schiralli.

Reviewers surveyed 15 Porter-Starke programs, including outpatient alcohol and drug addiction treatment, outpatient mental health treatment, inpatient treatment, day treatment, case management, community housing, community employment services, opiate replacement treatment, and integrated behavioral health and primary care.

To receive accreditation, Porter-Starke programs went through a rigorous peer review process and an on-site visit from a team of surveyors to determine the quality, measurability and accountability of its programs and services.

The latest CARF accreditation is the fourth consecutive three-year accreditation that the international accrediting body has awarded to Porter-Starke Services. Porter-Starke maintained accreditation from a different accrediting body prior to 2002.

Porter-Starke Services is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community mental health center with offices in Portage, Valparaiso and Knox. It has been providing services since 1975 and has grown to serve 9,000 people annually.

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services through the consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons serviced. It was founded in 1966 and establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services.
