Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City Honors Dr. Minesh Patel with St. Luke Award

Franciscan-Luke-Award-PatelMinesh Patel, M.D., a board-certified, internal medicine specialist, who has been in practice and with Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City since 1993, recently received the hospital’s St. Luke Award, which is presented annually to physicians on behalf of nursing staff members.

Also known as doctor of the year award, Patel was recognized because of “the compassionate care he continually provides to his patients, and of equal importance, to his collaborative approach to patient care,” Trish Weber, hospital vice president of operations and chief nursing officer said, adding, “Dr. Patel seeks mutual respect and collegiality while collaborating with nurses in the care of patients.”

Luke is the patron saint of physicians.

Patel said he was at first surprised when he learned of the honor, “because, here at St. Anthony, there are so many physicians on staff who I believe deserve it more than I do.”

Patel said he mostly deals with hypertension and diabetes cases, although, “I deal with all adult patients’ cases.

He added, “I first got interested in medicine during my elementary school days. I was fascinated watching patients go into a neighborhood clinic in India, where I grew up. I wanted to be like the physicians in that clinic and help patients feel better and smile.”
