Public Option or No Public Option? Two Local Physicians to Debate

The debate over a proposed public healthcare option will continue at Indiana University Northwest on Thursday, Nov. 5, as two prominent local physicians take up opposing sides on the issue. Dr. Bharat Pithadia, president of Pithadia Medical, will take the “pro” position on the so-called Public Option, while Dr. Alex Stemer, president and CEO of Medical Specialists Centers of Indiana, will present the argument in opposition.

The Public Option, as it is commonly known, has become a source of much controversy and debate in the halls of Congress and across the country. IU Northwest is pleased to provide a forum for that debate in Northwest Indiana.

The event will run from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the Savannah Auditorium, located in the Savannah Center at the southeast corner of the main campus parking lot at 33rd Avenue and Broadway. Refreshments will be provided. Members of the campus and the Northwest Indiana community, both those for and against the Public Option, are encouraged to attend and take part in what promises to be a fascinating and timely debate featuring two eminent members of the region’s healthcare community.

The Public Option debate at IU Northwest is sponsored by the College of Health and Human Services, the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
