Methodist Hospitals Breast Care Center Receives $10,000 Donation from the Pink Ribbon Society

On a chilly January morning at the Methodist Hospital Breast Care Center, a special donation was made. A check for $10,000 was given to the Breast Care Center from the Pink Ribbon Society.

Ann Peters, Founder of the Pink Ribbon Society was there with Christine Cain, Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Pink Ribbon Society, to personally present the donation to the team at the Breast Care Center. The donation will go to the Methodist Hospitals Foundation to support the Breast Care Center’s goal of creating a mobile mammography unit that will provide mammograms to women all over the region.

“One of the best ways for us to spread awareness about breast cancer is by making sure that women receive their mammographies on a regular basis,” Peters said. “The biggest excuse that women have for not getting a mammogram is that they don’t have time to go get one. With the mobile unit, they won’t have that excuse anymore. We really believe in this cause.”

The Pink Ribbon Society is a nonprofit organization that was started in 2003. Peters is a breast cancer survivor and it is her goal to support the men and women of the region who are affected by breast cancer. The Pink Ribbon Society raises funds throughout the year that they donate to local organizations who have a mission to eradicate breast cancer and alleviate the fears that are caused by it.

“We have worked with the Pink Ribbon Society for about 12 years now. They are a huge supporter of what we do here,” Jennifer Sanders, Methodist Hospital Breast Care Center Manager said. “In 2015 breast cancer was one of the most prevalent cancers to be diagnosed at the hospital and so we have a lot of work to do. With Lake County having one of the lowest screening rates in the country, we have a huge mission to reach the women in the area.”
