Porter Health Care System Names Director of Newly Expanded Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Portage Hospital

portage-hospitalPorter Health Care System has named Kristen Weinman as Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation.

A native of Northwest Indiana, Kristen began working for Porter in 2004 and played a role in the opening of the Inpatient Rehabilitation unit in 2008.

She received her bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences from Purdue University Calumet and her master’s in social work from Indiana University Northwest.

Helping patients regain their quality of life, Inpatient Rehabilitation at Portage Hospital, 3630 Willowcreek Road, specializes in an intensive, individualized approach, with each patient receiving at least three hours of one-on-one therapy each weekday with modified therapy on the weekends. The ultimate goal of the rehab program is to prepare each patient to return home with assistance from family members or other care providers.

“We have some patients who, when they first arrive, are really devastated by their injury or illness,” Weinman says. “Through our overall team approach – from nursing to intensive therapy and physician management – we are able to help those patients achieve their goals and regain some independence. It’s truly rewarding when our former patients come back for a visit, and we see how much they have improved.”

Inpatient Rehabilitation was recently expanded to meet growing need and offers 14 private rooms, including a customized room for bariatric patients.
