Franciscan Health Munster has earned an ‘A’ for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, a hospital safety ratings organization, which assigns A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide in an effort to provide a complete picture of patient safety in the U.S.
The hospital was one of 844 nationwide to receive the top grade, ranking it as one of the safest in the country, according to Leapfrog.
Patrick Maloney, hospital president and chief executive officer, was pleased with the news.
“I am extremely proud to see the great and high-quality services provided by our physicians and staff at Franciscan Health Munster recognized by the Leapfrog Group with an ‘A’ rating,” he said.

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice annually. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
