Not only does our pastor have the opportunity to grow and expand his ministry, we as a church will be blessed in his absence. Pastor Lionel loves “win-win” situations and this is certainly one!

This Sunday we are joined by Mark Gregston, founder and executive director of Heartlight Ministries, a residential counseling center for adolescents in crisis. Mark has helped more than 2,500 teenagers turn their lives around. Now Mark shares the concepts and principles he's learned with parents across America. You definitely do not want to miss him!

First-Baptist-SH-Gabriels-Horn-DonationThe week before Mother's Day, Pastor Tim Flener asked for donations of toiletries and the like for Gabriel's Horn, a service the church supports. The small congregation responded and the collected items were brought in for Mother's Day, then delivered on Tuesday.

The church seeks to help where it can and lets the community know it is there, especially for prayer. First Baptist Church of South Haven also takes gifts to the strip mall next door.

Griffith-Library-Branch-GroundbreakingThe Lake County Public Library held a groundbreaking for the new library branch in Griffith on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 4 p.m. The new location will be on the corner of Colfax Street and 45h Avenue in Griffith. Michael Davis, President of the Library Board of Trustees, along with the Director of the Lake County Public Library, Ana Grandfield, spoke to the crowd about the exciting features that the new library building will have.

The new library building will include a separate children’s programming room with a kitchen, and a drive-up book drop, a programming room, a small study room, and more computers. Refreshments were served at the current Griffith Branch located at 940 N. Broad Street.

We'll be helping Porter County residents with their spring cleaning by providing a One Stop Drop collection event, accepting old and unwanted appliances, electronics, tires and household hazardous waste.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Porter County Expo Center/Fair Grounds, 215 E. Division Road, Valparaiso.

The VHS Jazz Program is in the process of selling $5.00 coupon booklets for Papa John's Pizza. Inside each booklet are 9 coupons. One is for a free small cheese pizza (a $7.50 value) and there are two coupons for buy a large/extra large and get one free. The others are for free bread sticks, cheese sticks, or two-liter of pop with the purchase of a large or extra-large pizza. Please contact any Jazz Band member, or you can contact me and I can set you up. Proceeds go toward transportation and housing costs for various Jazz Band and Band trips. Thanks! --Dan Pritchett

Without help from volunteers, HO would not be able to operate as successfully as we currently do. Volunteers serve an average of 15 hours a week in our food pantry, help with office work, perform maintenance jobs, clean properties and make our lives so much easier!
