Open Casting Call for Four Plays at Chicago Street Theatre

Chicago Street Theatre is holding an open casting call for the remaining productions of its 2011/12 season on Saturday, October 29, 2011. Anyone who is interested is welcome to participate; no experience required. Directors for Edward Albee’s The Goat, Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, Jim Henry’s Brother of All and William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be present to potentially cast up to 45 roles for men and women 18 and up.

Chair Jonni Pera explained, “We are thrilled to offer this unique opportunity to audition for an incredible number of roles all in one day. This is the first time our theatre has organized this event. We are hoping this process will open our casting up to a greater number of people in Northwest Indiana. Many may not realize that Chicago Street Theatre depends on volunteers to put on every production. It is amazing the wealth of talent that exists in our local communities.”

The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?

In performance Jan. 27 – Feb. 11, 2012
Cast Requirements: 3 men, 1 woman
A bold play that details a middle-aged architect’s scandalous confession to his wife that will certainly end his marriage and his career.

The Cherry Orchard
By Anton Chekhov, adapted by David Mamet
Directed by Barb Malangoni and Daena Sisk
In performance April 13 – 28, 2012
Cast Requirements: 9 men, 5 women, extras
Chekhov’s classic drama of a family facing the devastating reality of changing social, political, and economic times.

Brother of All A World
Premiere by Jim Henry (CST resident playwright)
Directed by Traci Brant and Jonni Pera
In performance May 25 – June 9, 2012
Cast Requirements: 4 men, 1 woman
While undergoing a psychiatric evaluation as a result of a shocking family tragedy, the events of Leonard Street’s life unfold.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream By William Shakespeare
Directed by Eric Brant and Steve Holm
In performance July 2012, dates to be determined
Cast Requirements: 15-20 men and women
Chicago Street Theatre is extremely excited to bring Shakespeare in the Park to Central Park Plaza in downtown Valparaiso.

Chicago Street Theatre will provide scenes to read from each play, and actors may audition for as many plays as they like. Auditions will begin at 9 a.m. with light refreshments provided and continue until approximately 3 p.m. including a complimentary lunch. Chicago Street Theatre is celebrating its 57th season of producing live theatre for Valparaiso and the greater Northwest Indiana region. The theatre is located at 154 West Chicago St. in downtown Valparaiso. The intimate 130-seat auditorium renovated in 2008 features brand new stadium seating that makes it an incredible space to enjoy live theatre.
