VHS Hosting Sports Physicals June 4, 5 | Print |  E-mail

Valparaiso High School will host sports physicals on June 4 & 5 in the VHS gym from 6:00PM-8:00PM.

Monday, June 4th will be for incoming Freshman (class of 2016) and Seniors (class of 2013), while Tuesday, June 5th will be for Sophomores (class of 2015) and Juniors (class of 2014).

The physicials will be $25, with checks payable to VHS.

VHS Girls Track Finishes Half-Point Behind Chesterton, Places Second | Print |  E-mail

The Valparaiso High School girls track and field team finished just a half-point behind Chesterton at the 2012 Sectional Track & Field meet at Chesterton High School on Tuesday.

First places finishes for the Vikings include:

  • 1600 Meter Run: Katelyn DeVries – 5:08.23
  • 100 Meter Hurdles IM: Kassidy Swenson – 15.61
  • 300 Meter Hurdles Low: Kassidy Swenson – 46.07
  • Discus: Jessie Nyiro – 116-09.00

Vikings Baseball Team Jumps to Fifth in RSN Weekly Top Ten | Print |  E-mail

For the week of May 15, 2012, the Valparaiso High School baseball team jumped from sixth to fifth in Northwest Indiana, leapfrogging the Chesterton Trojans in the Region Sports Networks’ weekly rankings of area baseball teams.

Viking Golfers Take Top Four Finishes in Meet against Crown Point, Merrillville | Print |  E-mail

The Valparaiso High School boys’ golf team took care of business on Tuesday afternoon, securing the top four spots in a Duneland Athletic Conference tri-team meet against Crown Point and Merrillville.

Andrew Gariup (36), Kyle Meihofer (38), Logan Bertalan (38), and Bobby Jacobs (39) finished 1-2-3-4, with Patrick Andrie shooting a 44, good for tenth place to give the Vikings a 151 – 164 (Crown Point) – 211 (Merrillville) win.

Late Rally Puts Indians Over the Vikings 3-2 on the Diamond | Print |  E-mail

In a matchup of two of Northwest Indiana’s top baseball teams, Valparaiso fell to Portage 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Portage High School.

In what turned out to be a pitcher’s dual, the Indians’ Kris Springman was able to outlast Devin Bafia, who came in relief in the first inning to finish out the game for Valpo, recording six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on four hits.

kents-run-logoOnline registration is still available for the 5th annual Kent's Run 5K sponsored by Walgreens. Come celebrate the life of former Boone Grove High School student-athlete Kent Ribordy. Kent passed away from leukemia in 2007.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 26th, at 8 a.m. The start and finish line is located at Boone Grove Middle School, 325 West 550 South, Boone Grove, Indiana 46302. Plenty of free parking is available.
