Shorthanded but ready, the 7th grade “A” team showed up Saturday morning eager to break free from their 2 game losing streak.   The boys played hard throughout the contest and won the battle against LC Clark 30-27. Drew Paul led the way with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Max Jindra played a great game and scored 7 points while adding 3 rebounds and 4 steals.  Colin Ahearn was the spark plug on the court and swiped 5, dished out 3 assists, and scored 5.

Alex Yiankes took care of the ball all game and scored 4.  Mike Girman and Dan Wimberley combined for 6 rebounds and Dan scored 2.  Andy Lehnen played “tough” all game and scored a huge basket in the 4th quarter. Jacob Pancek came off the bench and contributed by being a “pest” on defense. What a great display of teamwork. Nice job boys!

The BF Boys 7th Grade Basketball B Team bounced back after their first loss with an impressive win against Lake Central Clark on Saturday.  The team dominated all phases of the game winning 35-16.  Balanced scoring and a swarming defense was too much for LC to contend with.  Daniel Gholston led the way with 10 points; Kyle Kaminski added 9 including a 4-point play. Jake Pancek chipped in with 5 and Tony Carpenter with 4.  The Vikes dominated the glass with 35 rebounds with all 8 players grabbing at least 2.  J.P. Kunze pulled down 7 defensive boards while Daniel Gholston owned the offensive boards pulling down 6. Eric Yiankes and Michael Girman were impressive on the boards as well with 5 apiece.

Offensively, the team is playing with poise and patience and it shows because once again the team combined for 12 assists.  Jake Pancek and J.P. Kunze led the way with 3 each.  Our swarming defense created 10 steals and numerous other turnovers.  Jake Pancek had 4 swipes, J.P. Kunze 3, Kyle Kaminski 2 and Andrew Lehnen 1.  I am happy with the effort on the court and encouraged that everyone is contributing.  Next up is Washington Township on Monday at their place.  Sleepin’ in Saturday mornings? Not for the 8th grade hoopsters as they rubbed the sleep out of their eyes and hopped the big yellow taxi over to Lake Central Clark. The Coyotes proved to be pesky canines, but both squads came away with wins.

In the “A” game, the Vikes didn’t really find a good rhythm but still won 48 to 44. Leading the scoring, Trent Fortson sunk 17 points, followed by Alex Healy’s 10, and Brett Boetel’s 8. Under the glass, Trent again cleaned up with 5, while out on the floor, Brett fired off 4 assists while Brendan Sutherland tossed off 3. In the second game, the “B” team again effectively used its 2-3 zone to prevent a very large LC presence from dominating inside and emerged victorious 32 to 24. Topping the charts, Jacob Bekelya tallied 11 points while Serph Decker scored 6 and Neil Whitfield fired in 5. Neil again dominated under the boards with 9, while he and Serph each tossed off 3 assists. Serph also topped the team in steals with 5, while Kevin Hickey and Neil each added 3.

Tonight the “B” team travels to Washington Township to take on the Senators’ “A” team.
