2010 Season and individual tickets are on sale starting November 30th at the Memorial Opera House in Downtown Valparaiso.

“Our 2010 season promises to be our biggest and best ever!” says Memorial Opera House Facility Director, Brian Schafer “with bonus shows, concerts, more Lunchtime Cabarets and a full year of Children’s Theatre.”

2010 Musical Theatre Season includes the following shows:

February 2010 – “The Andrew Brothers” a musical comedy and a swingin’ tribute to the music of World War II. The show takes place at an upcoming USO show for our troops circa 1940’s. Some familiar songs include, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Slow Boat to China, Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree and many, many more!

April is a show for the family…” Disney’s Beauty & The Beast”. It’s the classic story of a prince who is magically transformed into a hideous beast by an old witch. In order to break the spell, he must learn to love and be loved.

In June, the Memorial Opera House will welcome the Little Sisters of Hoboken to the stage in the hilarious hit, “Nunsense”. The show is a fundraiser put on by the Nuns to raise money to bury sisters’ accidentally poisoned by the convent cook, Sister Julia (Child of God).

August, the Opera House will welcome the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, “State Fair”. Mom and Pop have their hearts set on blue ribbons while their daughter and son find romance and heartbreak on the midway. Songs include, It Might As Well Be Spring, It’s a Grand Night for Singing, Boys and Girls Like You and Me, and many more!

September/October will feature “Route 66”. The station bells ring, and it’s time to head out onto the open road which begins in Chicago and travels along the famed ‘Main Street of America’ to the coast of California. Notable numbers include Six Days on the Road, Beep Beep, Truck Stop Cutie, On the Road Again, and King of the Road just to name a few. This high energy song and dance show will leave you toe-tapping for more!

December will truly be a special holiday time at the Memorial Opera House with “A Wonderful Life”. The story of George Bailey and his wonderful life in Bedford Falls remains a timeless fable of dreams, disillusionment and the power of love. An uplifting chronicle of the extraordinary lives of ordinary folk, A WONDERFUL LIFE exhilarates the mind and heart as it celebrates the innate goodness in us all.

As a side note, this production will be “extra special” to the Memorial Opera House. In the original film starring Jimmy Stewart, Valparaiso native and actress Beulah Bondi portrayed Ma Bailey, Jimmy’s mother in the film. It’s been told that Beulah began her acting career on the Opera House stage at the young age of 7 in a production of Little Lord Fauntleroy. Little Beulah grew up, graduated from Valparaiso University and eventually created quite a name for herself on the Hollywood “silver screen”.
