Winning Score of 60 at United Way of Porter County’s 2nd Annual Golf Classic

united-way-golf-2012-1It seems like 60 is the magic score to win the United Way of Porter County’s Annual Golf Classic at Sand Creek Country Club. Previous winners, Bob Macmahon, Jon Wolf and Jeff Albertson, shot a 60 last year and arrived this year, sporting a red target on the back of their shirts, all in good fun.

They hoped to lay claim as the winners again, but with a score of 64, they fell short to the Lake Park Surgicare Team who shot a 60 at this year’s event on May 21st. Presented by Kramer & Leonard, the 2nd Annual Golf Classic had 171 registered golfers and netted more than $50,000 to benefit United Way’s Community Fund. Top honors went to team members Bob Scheller, Jim Donahue, Justin Blackburn, and Chris Fisher. Their names will be engraved on a perpetual trophy which will remain in the United Way office on display.

united-way-golf-2012-2One of the strengths of United Way is the investment process by which local volunteers distribute the resources generated throughout the year. Annually, volunteers determine which programs to fund at 36 Partner Agencies which will make the greatest impact and improve the most lives in Porter County.

Decisions are based on several factors, including the program’s ability to achieve measurable results and document outcomes in the areas of education, health, and financial stability. “We are pleased that we can kickoff our Annual Campaign with a premier, county-wide event,” stated Greg Fox, Co-owner of Kramer & Leonard and Board Member for United Way.

“Golf Classic proceeds will be added to what we raise this fall, and will then be distributed to many worthwhile programs like before/after school programs for our youth, Meals on Wheels for our homebound elderly, and employment assistance for people with disabilities,” added Fox.
