ake County Steelers will face a predominately Indiana schedule for the first time in the teams history. Currently the Steelers are scheduled to play 4 non-league games and 8 MidStates Football League opponents. Out of the 12 games the Steelers are scheduled to play, 10 of those games will be played in the State of Indiana 5 games in Portage, 4 games in the Indianapolis area, 2 games in the state of Illinois (Peoria and Lincolnway Ill) and a non league game in Ft Wayne.
The Steelers will begin their season with a away game on May 19th as they travel to Laville IN to play the Tri City Spartans. With just a little over a month to prepare for the 2012 Season, the Steelers are still accepting player applications. The Steelers are currently looking for all positions but last years starting kicker will be out this season due to a shoulder injury. The Steelers are looking for a experience kicker to lead the Steeler Special Teams this season. Practice is every Tuesday and Thursday night @ 6pm-8pm at the Portage High School Freshman practice field (Next to the Tennis Courts).
