Saints Finish Exhibition Season With 10-3 Win

logoIn their final tune-up before the regular season begins on Thursday, the St. Paul Saints defeated the Gary SouthShore Railcats 10-3 at Midway Stadium in front of 1,404 on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints offense pounded out 13 hits, while the pitching staff gave up just two. The only shaky part of the game for the Saints was their defense, which committed two errors.

Wes Roemer, the potential number two starter for the Saints, tossed 4.0 strong innings allowing three unearned runs on two hits while walking three and striking out six. Luke Anderson was superb in his 3.0 innings of work, not allowing a hit while walking one and striking out six. Billy Spottiswood and Dustin Klabunde each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

The offense scored six runs in the first two innings and got on the board in the first. Dan Kaczrowski led off with a walk and stole second. After a walk to Joey Becker, Brad Boyer lined a single into right that scored Kaczrowski and sent Becker to third. Boyer then stole second and the throw from catcher Craig Maddox went into center field which allowed Becker to score making it 2-0 Saints.

In the second the Saints put up a four spot on an RBI ground out from Kaczrowski, an RBI single from Boyer and a two-run single by Craig Brazell giving the Saints a 6-1 lead.

With the Saints leading 6-3 in the seventh Jordan Tripp led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Kaczrowski to make it 7-3.

The Saints put the finishing touches on the game in the eighth when Willie Cabrera doubled and moved to third on a single by Brandon Tripp. Adam Frost had an RBI single and Dwight Child’s two-run triple finished the scoring.

The Saints begin the regular season on Thursday, May 16 at 7:05 p.m. at Midway Stadium against the New Jersey Jackals. It is Big Brothers, Big Sisters day at the ballpark and Magnet Schedule Giveaway presented by Mississippi Market. The game can be heard on 1220 AM.
