Munster Grad Rachel Shmagranoff Nabs Academic All-District Award

PUC-PeregrinsPurdue University Calumet senior Rachel Shmagranoff has been named to the Capital One College Division Academic All-District 2 women's soccer squad for her efforts in the classroom and on the field this season.

Shmagranoff (Munster, Ind./Munster) advances to the Capital One Academic All-America national ballot, with the Academic All-America Team scheduled for release on November 20.

The forward has started all 51 matches in her Purdue Calumet career, including each match during the team's 7-9 season this fall. With two Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference games remaining, the Peregrines (3-6, nine points) still have a chance to make their first conference tournament in program history.

Shmagranoff, who carries a 4.0 in microbiology, leads the Peregrines in points (20), goals (eight), and is second in assists (four). This season, the senior became the all-time program leader in career points (48), assists (16), starts (49), minutes (3,644) shots attempted (105), and shots on goal (65).

Earlier this year, she became just the third player in program history to record a hat trick with her three-goal performance in a win at Bethel this season, the same game in which she scored the game winner with less than a minute left in regulation.

The 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and recognize the nation’s top student athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The Peregrines return to action Saturday to celebrate senior day with a 1 p.m. league match against Holy Cross at Munster High School.
