Purdue Calumet’s Jada Buggs Named CCAC Player of the Week

PUC-PeregrinsWith two big performances last week, Purdue University Calumet junior Jada Buggs was honored as the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday.

Buggs (Elkart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) earned the honor for the first time in her career and marked the second time the Peregrines have won the award this season, as junior Patrice McBee (Monterey, Ind./Culver Community) won earlier this season.

The 6-foot forward averaged 19.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game in two Peregrine victories last week over Olivet Nazarene and Wilberforce. She pumped in a career-high 29 points and 20 rebounds in just 27 minutes to help Purdue Calumet set a new program record for points in a game in a 122-91 win over the Tigers Nov. 19. She added six assists and shot 65.5 percent from the field.

In the Peregrines' 96-61 win over Wilberforce Nov. 21, Buggs made 5 of 9 shots from the field to net 10 points, eight assists, five boards and a block in just 25 minutes.

Buggs is currently the team leader in scoring (19.0) and tied in assists (4.6) and second in rebounding (9.0).

Purdue Calumet (6-2), ranked 10th in the NAIA Division II Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll, returns to action Saturday when the Peregrines travel to Clinton, Iowa, for a nonleague contest at Ashford University.
