Peters Earns Academic All-District Honor

VU-Peters-Earns-Academic-All-District-HonorValparaiso sophomore forward Alec Peters (Washington, Ill./Washington) received recognition Thursday for his work both on the hardwood and in the classroom, as he earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District V First Team. With the Academic All-District honors, Peters is now eligible for Academic All-American selection.

Peters has stood out on the court this season for Valpo, leading the way as the Crusaders have opened the 2014-15 campaign with a 21-4 record. The sophomore ranks third in the league in scoring (17.5 ppg) and seventh in rebounding (6.3 rpg), while pacing the circuit with a .463 3-point percentage. Peters is tied for league-high honors with 10 games scoring at least 20 points, while Valpo is a perfect 20-0 on the year when he scores at least 10 points.

In the classroom, Peters maintains a 3.34 cumulative grade point average as a sports management major. The sophomore was recently named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll for the first time. Peters was the only men’s basketball player from the Horizon League to earn Academic All-District honors.

To be eligible for Academic All-District and Academic All-America, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average of 3.30, and be either a starter or key reserve. District V consists of schools in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.
