Three Crusaders Capture Titles at Windy City Invitational

valpouniversitywomenswindycityinvitationalThe Valparaiso women’s track and field teams took fifth place (47.5 points) in the Windy City Invitational at the University of Chicago on Saturday, with three Crusaders taking home individual titles.

Jazmin Taylor (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) competed in her second meet of the week and out jumped the competition by four inches to win the high jump with a mark of 1.63m/5-4.25.

In the pole vault, junior Sarah Peters (LaGrange, Ill/Lyons Township) ended in a three-way tie for first place with her mark of 3.50m/11-5.75. Classmate Ashley Heisey (Shippensburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) took eighth with a height of 2.75m/9-0.25.

The Crusaders had two-thirds of the top three in the 5000 meter run, with Sophia Robinson (Downers Grove, Ill./South) taking first place in 20:02.17, while Lauren Sturgeon (Portage, Ind./Andrean) claimed third, crossing the line in 20:49.42.

In the sprints, senior Kelli Wosick (Mount Prospect, Ill./Saint Viator) bolted her way to second place in the 400m with a season best 1:01.12 and took tenth in the 200m with another season best of 27.68.

In the 3000m race, the junior duo of Hannah Schilling (Fraser, Mich./Lutheran North) and Michelle Espino (Fort Wayne, Ind./North Side [Goshen]) finished in seventh (11:14.42) and ninth place (11:15.88), respectively with season best times.

Ann Chapman (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) took sixth in long jump (4.84m/15-10.5).

Over at the Meyo Invitational, sophomore Liz Bloy (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) crossed the line in 5:19.02 in the mile.

Valpo returns to the track next Friday when they head to Purdue University for the Fred Wilts Invitational. Live results will be available through ValpoAthleitcs.com for both days of the meet.
