Crusaders Open Spring Season at Benbow Invitational

VU-Crusaders-Open-Spring-Season-at-Benbow-InvitationalThe Valparaiso women’s golf team opened their spring season on Monday at the Benbow Invitational, hosted by Butler University in Jacksonville, Fla. The Crusaders finished the day in sixth place with 339 strokes.

Junior Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) led the Crusaders with an 82 at Jacksonville Beach Country Club, finishing round one in a tie for 13th place.

Sophomore Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) shot an 83 to tie her season low score for 18 holes to finish day one in a tie for 15th place along with classmate Angie Kim (Schaumburg, Ill./Fremd).

Freshmen Kiana Jongsma (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) shot an 87 to finish in a tie for 27th place, while classmate Katie Willenbrink (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) carded a 93 to finish in a tie for 40th.

Junior Angie Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) shot a 91 to round out the Crusader scoring as she ended the day in a tie for 37th place.

Valpo returns to the links on Tuesday for the final day of the Benbow Invitational.
