Smutz, Sosnowski Throw Personal Bests at USF Invitational

VU-Smutz-Sosnowski-Throw-Personal-Bests-at-USF-InvitationalThe Valparaiso men’s track and field team kicked off their outdoor season on Thursday at the University of South Florida Invitational in Tampa. The only events to take place were the women’s heptathlon and the hammer throw.

Junior Jacob Smutz (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) won the men’s hammer throw with a massive toss of 56.94m/186-10, setting the second best throw in school history and beating his personal best by over ten feet. His out-threw the field by almost 20 feet.

Classmate Chris Sosnowski (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central) also threw a personal best 45.59m/149-07 to finish in fifth place in the hammer.

The Crusaders return to the track on Friday for the final day of the USF Invitational. Live results will be available at ValpoAthletics.com.
