Crusader Women Sixth After Day One at Evansville

VU-Crusader-Women-Sixth-After-Day-One-at-EvansvilleThe Valparaiso University women’s golf team kicked off its final tournament of the 2015 fall season on Monday at the Oak Meadow Country Club in Evansville, Ind. The Crusaders finished round one in sixth place with a score of 328, only ten strokes behind host and leader Evansville.

The Crusaders currently have four players inside the top-25 through round one. Leading the team is sophomore Katie Willenbrink (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn), who shot an 81 on Monday, placing her in a tie for tenth. Junior Angie Kim (Schaumburg, Ill./Fremd) and junior Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) finished the day tied for 17th after shooting a first-round score of 82.

Just one stroke behind Kim and Shrum is freshman Madison McCreary (Batesville, Ind./Batesville), who posted an 83 in round one, tied for 25th. Rounding out the Crusaders’ team score is freshman Kylie Shoemake (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central), who shot a 94 on the day.

Playing as individuals for Valpo are a pair of seniors - Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) finished the day tied for 17th along with Kim and Shrum with a score of 82, while Annie Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) shot an opening-round 88.

Valparaiso will close out the fall season tomorrow morning starting at 10 a.m. CT.
