Purdue University Northwest head coach Ryan Hayes added to his 2016-17 recruiting class with the recent signing of Djordje Cancarevic.

“Djordje reads the game very well,” Hayes said. “He is technically clean and a good ball winner. He will add good quality and experience to our team."

Cancarevic, a Lake Erie College (Mich.) transfer, played in 13 games in his sophomore season with the Storm, recording one goal and tallying four shots.

The 6-foot-2 defender was a four-year letterwinner at Chippewaa High School (Ohio), where he earned First-Team All-State, First-Team All-District and All-Wayne County honors.

Cancarevic was also awarded the WCAL and Wayne Holmes Player of the year award en route to a regular season and district championship with the Chipps.

The son of Dragisa and Zelkja Cancarevic, Djordje plans to major in Biology.

Purdue Calumet Captures CCAC Tourney Win, 5-4 over St. Ambrose
The Purdue University Calumet women's tennis team defeated St. Ambrose (Iowa), 5-4, marking the Peregrines second Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament victory in program history in a thrilling contest Monday.

The No. 4 seed Peregrines (8-5), who fell down early 2-1 after doubles play, were able to rally for the 5-4 win by beating the No. 5 seed Fighting Bees (14-7)in singles play, four matches to two, at the Community Hospital Tennis Complex at Dowling Park.

Purdue Calumet returns to action Thursday, when the Peregrines will take on the winner of No. 1 seed Cardinal Stritch and No. 8 seed Robert Morris in the CCAC Tournament Semifinals with the time and location to be determined.

With the score tied at 4-4, Peregrines senior Emily Pearson (Hammond, Ind./Morton) was able to hold off SAU's Shannon McEachern in three sets. Pearson won the first set, 6-4, before McEachern took the second set, 6-3. In her last-ever home match and first time in a three-set battle, Pearson defeated McEachern in the winner-take-all third set, 6-4.

Lori Haas (Bismarck, Ill./Bismarck-Henning) and Abby Kvachkoff (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) won in No. 1 doubles, defeating SAU's Griffin Rasche and Mary Anne Oswalt, 8-4.

Haas was able to also able to pick up the victory at No. 1 singles defeating SAU's Griffin Rasche in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

Kvachkoff won at No. 3 singles against SAU's Sammy Carr in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

At No. 4 singles, Kasey Kulesa (Munster, Ind./Munster) defeated SAU's Sarah Wurster in straight sets, 6-2 and won the second set, 7-6, by winning the tie-breaker 7-4.

SAU's Mary Anne Oswalt won at No. 2 singles against the Peregrines Ashley Pabey (East Chicago, Ind./East Chicago) in a tough three sets match, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0.

Kulesa and Pearson fought hard in No. 3 doubles, but fell to SAU's Alex Horton and Shannon McEachern, 9-7.

Mudd Leads Purdue Calumet on Day 1 of CCAC Championships; Peregrines Ninth
The Purdue University Calumet men's golf team currently stands tied for ninth place after the first day of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Monday.

Patrick Mudd (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) shot a 79 (tied for 19th) to lead the Peregrines for a team score of 338.

Defending champion Cardinal Stritch led the field after 18 holes with a team score of 300, while Holy Cross (Ind.) stood five strokes back with a team score of 305.

Senior Tim Talley (Portage, Ind./Portage) and sophomore Joshua Jackowski (St. John, Ind./Lake Central) both recorded a 85 to stand tied for 43rd overall.

The Peregrines stand five strokes behind eighth place Roosevelt University (333).

The 14 teams will kick off the final round of the CCAC Championships at TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. Tuesday morning.
