Tulcin Added to Valpo Football Coaching Staff

tulcinValparaiso University football coach Dave Cecchini has announced the addition of Rob Tulcin to his coaching staff as the team’s linebackers coach.

Tulcin spent the last three seasons at the University of Chicago as a defensive assistant for the Maroons. Before entering coaching, Tulcin played collegiately at Lehigh University from 2007-2010. He was a member of the 2010 team that won the Patriot League championship.

“He’s a really talented, energetic coach,” Cecchini said. “He’s very organized. He has a preexisting knowledge of our defensive scheme. He worked with Coach Moore in the past, which is a plus as well. He has a good knowledge and a head start on our scheme.”

Tulcin, a seven-time scholar-athlete academic achievement award recipient, graduated from Lehigh with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

“One of the things that I have learned from my first three seasons in coaching is how important it is to have great leadership among players,” Tulcin said. “The best teams I’ve been around are led by the players, so it comes down to recruiting the right kind of kids and not just talented kids, but kids that are motivated and passionate about the game.”

During Tulcin’s playing days at Lehigh, Cecchini served as the team’s offensive coordinator, Valpo offensive coordinator Jason Miran was the wide receivers coach and Valpo defensive coordinator Ernest Moore was Tulcin’s teammate his freshman year and Lehigh’s safeties coach during Tulcin’s senior season.

“This was not only a great opportunity to gain more responsibility and take a bigger role within a program and to come to the Division I level, but also to work with a staff that I have some familiarity with,” Tulcin said. “I’m excited about it; there’s a lot of energy here and I’m expecting great things to come.”
