Valpo Named STATS FCS Team of the Week

The Valparaiso University football team has made considerable strides over the course of the 2017 season – and the program’s progress hasn’t gone unnoticed. The latest recognition for Valpo football rolled in on Sunday as the team was named the STATS FCS Team of the Week.

The Crusaders (4-4, 3-2 PFL) received the national honor after downing Pioneer Football League foe Morehead State 63-32 on Saturday, the fifth-highest scoring output in program history. That came on the heels of a 49-15 win over Marist, a team picked to finish third in the PFL. The Crusaders have forced 12 turnovers over the last two games – six in each contest.

In addition, Valpo threatened the school’s record for total offense on Saturday against the Eagles, racking up 597 yards in the win. The school record is 613, set in 1985. The 63 points was Valpo’s highest total since 1996 and only the second time Valpo has scored over 60 since 1969.

The Crusaders find themselves in the top half of the PFL standings with three games to go. They currently sit in a tie for fourth in the 11-team league.
