Rogers-Named-First-Team-Academic-All-AmericanA standout both on the field and in the classroom, Valparaiso University women’s soccer senior Grace Rogers (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) is one of 11 players who are CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American selections, as released by the organization on Thursday. Rogers is the fifth player in Valpo women’s soccer history to be named an Academic All-American.

On the field this season, Rogers was an Honorable Mention All-Missouri Valley Conference selection in the Crusaders’ first year as a Valley institution. She set a new Valpo single-season record with seven assists on the year, good for third in The Valley. Rogers also closed her career as the Crusaders’ all-time record holder for career assists with 15 helpers. She started 18 of Valpo’s 19 matches in 2017 and was part of a defensive unit which surrendered just 25 goals in 19 matches.

In the classroom, Rogers has excelled throughout her time at Valpo, as she owns a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA as a double major in actuarial science and business analytics. She has earned recognition at the league level for her work academically and athletically, as she was a member of the Horizon League Academic All-League team in 2016 and earned First Team MVC Scholar-Athlete recognition this year.

Rogers joins Jackie Thomas (2007), Jackie Kondratko (2008), Rita Craven (2015) and Jenny Fassbinder (2015) as Crusader women’s soccer players who have been Academic All-American selections. Craven, Fassbinder and Kondratko were all First Team selections as well. Overall, Rogers is the 30th student-athlete in Valpo Athletics history to receive Academic All-American accolades from CoSIDA, including the 12th to earn a spot as a First Team choice.
