Crusaders Conclude Mid-Winter Invitational Sunday

VU-Crusaders-Conclude-Mid-Winter-Invitational-SundayThe Valparaiso University bowling team closed out action at the Mid-Winter Invitational from Jonesboro, Ark. on Sunday morning, as best-of-seven baker matches concluded tournament play.

How It Happened

  • Valpo opened bracket play against Jackson State on Sunday. The Crusaders dropped game one of the best-of-seven and battled to a tie in game two before Valpo topped the Tigers in four straight games – including a two-pin win in game three and a five-pin win in the clincher – to earn the 4-1-1 victory.
  • The win moved the Crusaders into a matchup with #22 Alabama State. Valpo jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead before the Hornets answered with three straight wins. The Crusaders posted their top game of the day with a 226 in game six to even the match and send it to a decisive seventh game, but ASU took the finale to come away with the 4-3 victory.
  • Faced with a rematch with Jackson State in the final match of the tournament, the Crusaders traded wins with the Tigers in the first four games. Valpo claimed the fifth game to go ahead 3-2, but JSU captured each of the final two games as the Crusaders fell by a 4-3 final.
