Crimson Waves Bid For First Win Falls Short In Five

Crimson-Waves-Bid-For-First-Win-Falls-Short-In-FiveReturning to action for the first time in 15 days, the Calumet College of St. Joseph men's volleyball team was healed, rested, and ready to get their first win of the season. It just won't be tonight. The Crimson Wave put together a valiant effort, but fell just short as the visiting Judson University Eagles took advantage of poor hitting in the fifth set to come away with the 3-2 (17-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-18, 10-15) victory.

RESULTS
Judson University 3 (25, 23, 26, 18, 15)
Crimson Wave 2 (17, 25, 24, 25, 10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game one was handily won by the Judson (4-18, 3-5 CCAC), as they hit .538 during the 25-17 victory. Neither team hit exceptionally well in set number two, with JU assembling just a .118 hitting percentage and CCSJ (0-11, 0-7 CCAC) hitting just .057, but it was the resolve of the Wave however that won them the set. Cal College came back from a 16-8, earning the last 11 of 15 points for the 25-23 win. Set three was another battle, going to extra points at 26-24. Neither team led by more than three during the third frame, but the Eagles were able to take advantage of a late Crimson and Gray error to go up 2-1 in the match. The Wave dug deep and were determined to take the game to five sets, easily winning set four 25-18 thanks to a .324 attack percentage and 15 kills. Unfortunately, the Wave would hit -.067 in the final of the evening, allowing the Eagles to use their seven kills to propel them to the 15-10 win and 3-2 match victory.

STAT OF THE GAME
The teams were nearly identical in all the major attacking statistics, but it was their service game that would do them in. Calumet committed 21 service errors as opposed to only 11 from the Eagles.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Three Wave players were key to the effort on the evening, as they share player of the game honors. Tim Williams (SR/Aurora, Ill.) tallied 20 kills, Liam Fagan (SR/Crete, Ill.) contributed 20 digs, and Roberto Morales (FR/Calumet City, Ill.) helped out the team with 49 assists.

WHO'S ON DECK?
Lindenwood University-Belleville awaits the Wave this coming Saturday, with the Lynx coming in for a morning matchup. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 am.
