CCSJ Men’s Basketball Starts Season 4-0 for Second Straight Season

CCSJ-Mens-Basketball-Starts-Season-4-0-for-Second-Straight-Season It's never a great thing to lose on your home court. It's even worse to lose in a tournament that you put together. Thankfully, the Calumet College of St. Joseph men's basketball team didn't have to worry about any embarrassment, as they dispatched Brescia University 81-70 to move to 4-0 on the young season.

RESULTS
BU Bearcats – 70
CCSJ Crimson Wave – 81

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was truly a tale of two halves. After the feeling out process where both teams traded the lead back and forth, CCSJ (4-0) took the lead with a Randall Rushing (SR/Chicago, Ill.) three pointer at 15:10. That would be the last time Brescia University (2-2) would lead, but it didn't mean that the Bearcats wouldn't make things interesting later in the game. The first half saw the Wave shoot 39.4 percent compared to BU's paltry 26.5. The Bearcats went on to shot better from behind the arc, but went down by 19 due to CCSJ sinking 10 free throws throughout the period, which allowed the Wave to take a 42-25 lead into the intermission.

That is where things changed. Brescia came out guns blazing. BU shot more than 20 percentage points better than they did in the first at 47.2, and actually were shooting over 60 percent for most of the last frame. They outscored the Crimson and Gray 45-39 in the half, and were able to cut the Wave's lead down to five with 7:14 to go. Cal College was able to hang on, pushing the lead back into double digits near the end. Ultimately the difference was shooting from the charity stripe. While BU went 5-15, the Crimson Wave went 23-28. This allowed them to seal up the game, go undefeated on the weekend, and stay undefeated overall with a 81-70 victory.

STAT OF THE GAME
Randall Rushing's double-double in this afternoon's game was the first by a Crimson Wave player since Jose Ramirez put up 11 points and 10 rebounds against Holy Cross College last February.
