Students Take Steps Toward Their Futures at the 2013 Spring Athletic Scholarship Signing

Handshakes and hugs, smiles and sentimentality abounded at the Spring Athletic Scholarship Signing at Valparaiso High School. Four athletically talented and academically gifted seniors signed agreements to go on to play college sports.

Basketball player John Mosser signed with the U.S. Air Force Academy Prep School; Quentin Palmer agreed to play basketball for Indiana University Northwest; Zach Meyer plans on playing basketball for the Indiana University Kokomo Cougars; and Caitlyn Gear signed to cheer at Ball State University.

“Valpo has a very large number of athletes to sign to play college sports,” said Valparaiso High School principal Reid Amones. “They are great leaders who will represent our school in other communities.”

“A large part of our success this year was due to these players,” head varsity basketball coach Joe Otis said. “This is the greatest number of players I’ve ever seen go on to play college basketball.”

“I’m really excited to continue my cheerleading career,” Gear said. “I don’t know what I would do in college without cheer.”

“Our coaches, teachers, and students are all great, and the families are incredibly supportive,” Amones said. “These kids excel academically and athletically.”

“I’m really proud of all of them,” Otis said.
