Chris Klenk and Cameron Sorensen each had a pair of hits for Portage, but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs prevailed in the Duneland Athletic Conference game.

Lake Central triangular (Boys Golf)

Lake Central, Munster and Highland met on Tuesday, shooting the back nine at Palmira Golf Course in St. John. The Indians came in first, Munster second and Highland third.

Matt Specht of Munster and Highland's Taylor Peters both shot a 39 to tie for the meet's best score. The Indians were led by Rhett Barker and Kyle Theirl, who each shot a 40 for Lake Central (2-0).

Munster is now 1-1 on the season, while Highland holds a 1-2 mark.

Lake Central's Andy Tellas shot a 41 to lead all junior varsity golfers.

Marquette 4, River Forest 1 (Girls Tennis)

Abigail Schmidt was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1 singles, while the Blazer team of Taylor Bowen and Stephanie Espar picked up a win at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-1 on Tuesday.

River Forest's lone victory came from Marisela Camacho, getting a win at No. 3 singles, 1-6, 6-4, 11-9.

Marquette will return to action on Friday, with a home dual meet against Bishop Noll set for 4:30 p.m.

Marquette 14, Elkhart Christian 7 (Baseball)

Trailing by three in the fifth inning, the Blazers rallied for a win in the first game played at the renovated Marquette Athletic Conference on Tuesday.

Portage 12, Merrillville 2 (Softball)

Kiley Jones struck out 13 batters and provided the offense a boost with two hits to lead Portage over the Pirates on Monday. Alexis Johnson (2-for-2) added two stolen bases and an RBI for the Lady Indians.

Adrien Hall (2 hits, RBI) and Sydney Coundiff (double) also provided sparks in the win.

Portage 53, Merrillville 79, Chesterton 82 (Girls Track)

The 4 x 800 relay team of Paige Pizer, Kyra Ball, Keanna Crum and Rebecca Timm finished in first place, with Pizer adding wins in the 800 meter run and 1600 meter run.

Ashley Sosbe added a win in the discus for the Lady Indians.

Portage 76, Chesterton 56 (Boys Track); Portage 71, Merrillville 61 (Boys Track)

The Indians picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday behind David Clegg, who finished first in the high jump and third in the 400 meter dash. Nick Heimberg added a win for Portage in the 1600 meter run. Danny Mills (110 m hurdles) and Taylor Sebben (300 m hurdles) also had first place finishes for the Indians. Portage will compete in the West Lafayette relays on Saturday.

Portage 5, Hammond Morton 0 (Girls Tennis)

Singles winners for Portage included Mandy Haupt, Emily Sajda and Sammie Thompson. Doubles wins were Lauren Wilk-Emily Vahary and Patty Mota-Haley Mergl.

La Porte 175, Marquette 195, New Prairie 212 (Boys Golf)

Tyler Paholski carded a 44 to lead Marquette at Beechwood Golf Course on Wednesday. The Blazers also had scores from Hank Littleton (50), Nolan Cabela (50) and Dean Swider (51).

Angola 34, Marquette 5 (Boys Rugby)

The visiting Hornets ran away in the second half to pick up the victory. The Blazers will visit South Bend High School on Wednesday, April 30. Start time is 4 p.m. central time.

Penn 3, Valparaiso 2 (Girls Tennis)

Madisen Kammerer won at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-1) and Rachel Willing at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-1) for Valparaiso on Wednesday.

Crown Point 6, Portage 0 (Freshman Baseball)

Michael Retherford struck out four and David Miller pitched three solid innings of relief for Portage.

Crown Point 5, Portage 0 (Softball)

Kaitlin Doud has a base hit and Kiley Jones struck out six for Portage in the loss.
