Claire Werner paced the Wolves with a 47 in their win over Merrillville at Summertree Golf Course, a par 36. Tara Seizys (51), Thespina Dabagia (55), Cecelia Latchford (61) and Allie Mellen (66) followed for Michigan City (2-1 overall, 1-0 Duneland Athletic Conference).

The Wolves return to action on Tuesday against Lake Central at Michigan City Municipal South. Tee time is set for 4 p.m.

Chesterton 174, Lake Central 182 (Girls Golf)

Cara Kroeger medaled for Chesterton at the back nine of Palmire Black, a par 37. Grace Davis (42), Andrea Hanas (45), Elyse Stasil (46) and Lexi Hanas (56) followed for the Trojans.

Host Lake Central was led by Alexis Miestowski’s 43. Julia Beggs (44), Kylie Shoemake (45), Allie Onest (50) and Brooke Scartozzi (54) followed for the Indians.

The Lake Central junior varsity squad shot a 236.

Kouts 5, Marquette 2 (Girls Soccer)

Maranda Birmingham had two goals to lead Kouts. Gabby Rogers added a goal and a pair of assists.

Stacey Barron tallied both Marquette scores, one via an assist from Michaela Jennings and the other unassisted.

Tiffany Tratar saved six shots for the Fillies, while Emmi Block had 13 stops for the Blazers.

La Porte 4, South Bend Riley 1 (Boys Tennis)

Michael Varda (No. 1) and Bobby Barden (No. 2) each picked up 6-0 singles victories for La Porte, which improved to 2-0. Travis Upp and Brogan Briggs teamed for a 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 win at No. 2 doubles for the Slicers.

South Bend St. Joseph 5, Valparaiso 0 (Boys Tennis)

Visiting South Bend St. Joseph earned the victory in nonconference action. St. Joe won the junior varsity match, 8-5.

Valparaiso 4, La Porte 1 (Boys Soccer)

Visiting Valparaiso had goals from Ryan Miles, Alec Rittgers, Michael Deedrick and Jacob Wallace.

La Porte’s lone tally came from Jon Aaron.
