Prep Sports Weekend Recap: 12-5-14 through 12-7-14

Crown Point 46, Portage 42 (Varsity)
The Lady Indians dropped a DAC game to Crown Point 46-44. Kaitlyn Steers returned to the lineup to lead the team with 14 points. Kaitlyn Shafer added 8 points and Tyeisha Hunter added 6.

La Porte 63, Valparaiso 59 (Varsity) Click here for photos from this game!
The La Porte Slicers girls basketball team got off to a hot start against the Vikings and held on to win 63-59 at Valparaiso High School. Olivia Murray led the Vikings with 18 points, followed by Grace Withrow's 17 points and Ari Gerdt's 10. The Vikings' JV team won 31-19 to advance to 6-0 on the season.

Valparaiso 58, Highland 40
The VHS girls' basketball team took home a 58-40 victory against Highland on Saturday, led by Olivia Murray's 14 points. Senior Maggie Meyer added 10 points while Ari Gerdt added nine. The Vikings' JV team won 36-26.

Boys Basketball

Portage 70, South Bend Clay 62
The boys varsity basketball team defeated South Bend Clay 70-62 to up their record to 2-1. Jordan Collazo led the Indians in scoring with 24 points followed by Canaan Cooper with 15. Shamari Lewis and Jordan Olson eac chipped in with 8 a piece.

Barr Reeve 70, Marquette Catholic 58
The Marquette Catholic boys basketball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to Southport High School in Indianapolis to take Barr Reeve in a rematch of the 2014 Class 1A State Championship game. The Blazers came out fast and were up double digits on the Vikings early in the game, and had a 9 point advantage heading into halftime. However, the Vikings used a 19-0 run in the second half to take a lead that they would not relinquish. Barr Reeve won 70-58. The Blazers were led by senior Ryan Fazekas who had 20 in the effort. The boys basketball team returns to action on Friday, December 12, 2014 when they travel to River Forest to take on the Ingots in Greater South Shore Conference action. JV tip off is set for 5:30pm, with Varsity to follow.
