vhs-logoIt’s been a rough week for athletic events. We have had to reschedule many events.

The JV softball team played once over Spring Break defeating Merrillville 180. The pitchers, Ana Betustak and Jazmine Cwenta only gave up one hit each. While all of the team’s bats were there Elizabeth Leka got a stand up Triple and Michaela Nagy a stand up Double.

Reed Haller pitched a no hitter with 8 strike outs. Ty Gill and Evan Tharp combined for 8 hits to lead the offensive attack. The JV Vikings are now 2-0.

The Varsity baseball team defeated Hobart 11-1 in 5 innings over Spring Break. Zack Zborowski scattered four hits en route to the win for the Vikings. Cameron Bruce had two RBIs for the Valparaiso. Gunnar Pullins, Marcus Gholston, Nick Caputo and Charlie Healy each scored two runs. On Monday, The Varsity played Hebron at The Steelyard. Senior Nick Caputo came in to preserve the win for the Vikings after Junior Ryan Troxel threw 5 solid innings. Nick struck out all three batters with runners in scoring position to lead the Vikings to victory. Offensively, the Vikings were paced by Juniors Tyler Bukur and Ronnie Morey and Senior Charlie Healy who all had 2 hits apiece. The Vikes won 7-3. On Thursday they defeated conference opponent Michigan City 6-5. The Vikings got another strong pitching performance from junior lefty, Zack Zborowski as he picked up his second win of the season( 8 k's, 5 hits) in a snow filled game at Michigan City. With temperatures in the upper 30's and snow falling the Vikings took advantage of walks and wild pitches to secure their first DAC win of the season. Once again, Senior Nick Caputo came on in the 6th inning with runners in scoring position to stop the Michigan City threat and seal the win.
