BFMS 8th Grade Basketball Recap: vs. LaPorte Boston

Freezing rain delayed the start of school yesterday, but it didn’t prevent LaPorte from making the trip to Boucher last night. Unfortunately for Boston, the slick conditions outside did not prevent the Vikes from bruising the Bruins in Boucher.

In the 8th grade “A” game, the Vikes beared down on the Bruins, icing them with a 58 to 22 skinning. Leading the offense, Bret Boetel fired in 14 points to go with his 4 steals. In addition, Christian Rouse and Trent Fortson contributed 8 points each, while Triston Rouse pulled down 5 boards. Christian also reeled in 4 rebounds as he tossed out 3 assists.

In the 8th grade “B” game, the second squad’s quest for an unblemished season appeared in doubt in the first half as it played more like a hibernating bear than an undefeated team. But just like in many games this year, the Vikes came back after half-time with a vengeance and buried the Bruins 50 to 29. Leading the scoring, Neil Whitfield tossed in 12 points, followed by Serph Decker’s 10. Keeping the offense moving, Michael Krutz fired off 4 slick assists. In the paint, Serph and Neil also topped the team in rebounds, almost all of which came in the second half. In addition, Serph also led the team in steals with 4, followed by Jacob Bekelya and Andrew Mears, who each snagged 3.

Congratulations to both “A” and “B” teams on their excellent regular seasons. But next week, is tourney time for the “A” team, so there is still more work to be done. Stay tuned for more exciting Viking news.
