BFMS 8th Grade Basketball Recap: vs. Chesterton

Every great team is lead by a great coach, who often has a unique moniker that captures some of the essence of that leader’s personality. Back in the day, John Wooden led UCLA to numerous national championships as the Wizard of Westwood; Bob Knight was known as the General at IU for his strategies and unyielding demand for excellence; and in the pro ranks Phil Jackson is called the Zen Master because he incorporates spirituality into his coaching style.

Here at BF, the 8th grade hoopsters also have a coach whose guidance has led them to great things, the latest of which is the Conference Championship trophy won last night as the BF Vikings defeated Chesterton’s Trojans with a resounding 42 to 26 victory. Offensively, Chesterton could not match nor stop the sharpshooting of the Vikes as Triston Rouse poured in 14 points, while Justin Osburn tossed in 12, and Alex Healy heaped in 8. But an offensive machine can’t run solely on shooting, and Trent Fortson and Bret Boetel kept the engine firing with 6 assists apiece. Under the boards, in the paint, and sweeping the glass, Trent was a beast as he ripped down 12 rebounds while he also added 3 steals to his stats.

Congratulations to the 8th grade boys for their outstanding win, and to Coach Osburn as well, who now because of his coaching prowess, should we perhaps address as “The Buddha of Boucher”? The 8th grade boys have one more thing to take care of to polish off an excellent season – a trip to North Judson this Saturday to play in a season-ending tourney.
