Indiana Elite Gymnastics Joins Nationwide Effort to Set Handstand World Record

Indiana-EliteLisa Whipps, club owner & former AAU Junior Olympic Champion, announced today that IEG will join forces with gymnastics clubs across the country on September 17 to break the world record for most handstands held simultaneously. As a part of this year’s National Gymnastics Day on September 17, gymnasts, families, friends and enthusiasts nationwide kick up their feet in show of strength for the sport and to raise funds for their Children’s Miracle Network partner. “We are very excited to be a part of making gymnastics history,” said Whipps. “The idea of raising money for our CMN partner Riley Children’s Hospital while showcasing the sport I love just makes the event even better.”

Indiana Elite Gymnastics, formerly Lisa’s Gymnastics, is located at 679 W. SR 130 in Wheeler. Activities for the day will begin at 11:00 am. Team gymnasts will be demonstrating routines and skills on bars, vault, beam and floor. Handstand participants will kick up their feet at exactly noon. Registration is open to the public, all ages are encouraged to participate in this history making event. For information on registering for the event call 764-1019, 364-1690 or email ieg_asa@aol.com.

Registration or entry into the event will be $5 or you may bring items for the Riley Parent Cart. The parent cart is available for families who have a child in Riley Hospital. Items needed for the cart are game books, fleece blankets, full size candy bars, slippers, personal hygiene products or postage stamp booklets.

Each year, USA Gymnastics celebrates National Gymnastics Day to raise exposure of the sport. Since 2001, gymnastics clubs across the country have raised more than $1.4 million for Children’s Miracle Network. The funds raised are distributed to the Children’s Miracle Network hospital in the club’s community.
