2nd Annual Run into Fall at Immanuel Lutheran to Help Feed the Hungry

run-into-fall-2012-1On September 21st, hundreds of runners, families and volunteers will gather at Immanuel Lutheran to work toward one goal - helping to feed the hungry.

The second annual Run Into Fall 10K race and 1 Mile Kids Run will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School, 1700 Monticello Park Drive in Valparaiso and will again benefit the Immanuel Food Pantry, part of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana.

“There’s a tremendous need to help fill the food pantry shelves,” said Nicole Rossmann, Run Into Fall race director. “Last years’ race raised $5,000 for the food pantry and we’re hoping to increase that number this year.”

The 1 Mile Kids Run, for kids 14 and under, will kick off the event at 8 am. All participants will receive a finisher ribbon. Trophies will be awarded to overall winners and medals to all age group winners.

The 10K race begins at 8:30 am. This year’s event features a new faster course and will take runners through Valparaiso neighborhoods. Hand-made copper medallions will be awarded to the overall winners as well as the 1st male and female in each age group. Custom die-cast shoe medals will be awarded to 2nd and 3rd place runners in each age group.

Both the 1 Mile Kids Run and the 10K road race are Strider Gold Cup races. The 10K race will offer instant timing results and is the final qualifying race for the Extra Mile Championship racing series.

Discounted registration is available until September 7th at thtiming.com. All preregistered 10K runners will receive a long sleeved technical shirt, and preregistered 1 Mile runners will receive a short sleeved tie dyed t-shirt.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Immanuel Food Pantry. The pantry has been supplying food to the residents of Washington and Center Township for over 25 years. In 2011, they gave away 54.3 tons of food to over 6,000 area families in need.
