Northwest Indiana native Chris Wellsand has joined Valpo Parks Golf as a teaching professional based at Creekside Golf Course and Training Center, 2355 Clifford Road, Valparaiso. He brings his “Right Approach Performance Academy” to Creekside, regarded as among the region’s premier learning facilities with its 48-station driving range, putting and chipping practice areas, beautiful full-length 9-hole course and bonus 3-hole course.
Wellsand has worked in the golf industry since 2002, most recently as the general manager at Aberdeen Golf Club. He grew up in Valparaiso, playing four years on the Valparaiso High School golf team. After high school, Wellsand attended Coastal Carolina University, earning degrees in Finance and Professional Golf Management. Upon graduation, he completed his PGA Membership requirements and was elected into the PGA. He has certifications through the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) and K-Vest.
“We are delighted to welcome Chris to our teaching staff,” says Beth Bowker, operations manager for Valpo Parks Golf. “He brings a real passion for teaching and growing the game to this role and will be an asset to our golf program.”
Wellsand joins longtime teaching pro Nancy Bender, who remains in residence at Creekside.
As Valpo Parks Golf gears up for the 2017 season, Wellsand says that improving customer service and expanding instructional opportunities are his top priorities in his new role. “I’m excited to be part of Valpo Parks Golf, working with Beth, Nancy and all the staff, and growing the game in my hometown.”
Wellsand and his wife, Lillian, have two young sons, Bentley and Emerson. They expect the arrival of a daughter, Palmer, in May. Wellsand’s teaching Website is www.rightapproachgolf.com.
