Keeping Things Fresh Before Getting Muddy

treadmill-tvI made the trek from the office today to Anytime Fitness of La Porte for a change of scene for my Mudathlon training. That's probably my favorite part about being a member of Anytime Fitness. I have access to any club so if I'm not close to my home in Crown Point, I can still get a good workout in.

When I walked in I was immediately greeted by Kelsey, resident H2I, and she offered assistance if I required it. A greeting, something so small and easy, makes a world of difference. Those who work in any environment that involves customer service will know what I'm talking about.

I venture off into the club to see what type of trouble I can get myself into (by trouble I mean workout. I'm a good person. I wipe down the machines when I'm done and everything). Hopping on a treadmill I notice the awesome features on it. The treadmills there have computers on them. This workout is going to be easy!

I immediately get on the Internet via the treadmill's flat screen computer and send a message to my boyfriend, Dave, to update him on my findings. I then add this piece of equipment to my mental bucket list and continue to serf the web, watch a little TV, and just enjoy the cardio.

After 20 minutes (it went by extremely quick), I move on to some ab work. There's plenty to work with at Anytime Fitness of La Porte; kettle balls, free weights, stability balls, a Bosu ball, and even posters on the wall with easy instructions to follow. And I am VERY impressed with how clean and tidy everything is. Some gyms I've been to in the past (none of the Anytime Fitness clubs) have been just gross. Someone can get really sick or hurt if equipment isn't properly cared for.

Anyway, it's important to take care of your abdominals. Not just because it's nice to have a toned tummy, it's also great to prevent back injury. When your back goes out, you're pretty much down for the count. At Mudathlon and in lots of other athletic events there is a lot of bending twisting, lifting, etc. This all uses your back. And when you have strong abs and a strong core, this supports your back muscles and lessens the likelihood of you getting hurt. Take care of your body and it will take care of you.

When I was done and walking out, I grabbed an apple from a basket that was filled with fruit by the office in the club. It was Free Fruit Monday! How neat!

Hey cool note: I am wearing a pair of shorts that didn't quite fit a week ago!! Small victories. :)

If you haven't signed up for Mudathlon Northwest Indiana yet, do it NOW!
