Designed For Safety: Lake Shore Motors Toyota

Toyota is known for producing some of the most reliable, safest vehicles on the road. Their cars are designed with the knowledge that safety is more than just features – safety is human lives. Even the most cautious drivers need that extra reassurance they’re in good hands. Safety begins with the driver, and Toyota is here to protect you and your passengers along the way.

In 2017, nine of Toyota’s vehicles were named “Top Safety Picks” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for the company’s innovative safety features.

Toyota’s Safety Sense and STAR Safety System come standard on many of the company’s vehicles. These innovative features alert drivers of any hazards on the road and bring drivers one step closer to avoiding crashes altogether.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
With an in-vehicle camera and a radar sensor, the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection is designed to detect a vehicle or a pedestrian in front of you. After the system detects a possible collision, it prompts you to take action using audio and visual alerts. When the unexpected occurs, the system automatically applies the brakes to reduce your speed, helping minimize the likelihood or reduce severity of a frontal collision.

Lane Departure Alert
The Lane Departure Alert (LDA) is designed to detect lane departure on the roads with visible lane markings. It’s also designed to activate when you’re traveling 32 mph or higher. For those unintended lane departures, a camera placed on the windshield alerts drivers when they have veered from the lane.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) is a high-tech device that uses radar behind the Toyota badge, plus a camera, to adjust your speed. It helps you maintain a preset distance from the car in front of you. If DRCC determines you need to slow down more, an audio and visual alert notifies you and brakes are applied. Once there’s no longer a vehicle in front of you, the system will then accelerate to your preset speed.

Vehicle Stability Control
Toyota’s Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) helps prevent wheel-slip and loss of traction by reducing engine power and applying brake force to wheels that need it. Using data from a steering wheel sensor and the ABS wheel-speed sensors, the system determines if the vehicle is following the driver’s steering inputs. If the vehicle is straying from the direction in which the motorist is steering, VSC is designed to reduce engine power and pulse the left or right side brakes to help correct the situation.
