New Scholarships for Adult Students at IU Northwest

rot1

Indiana University Northwest is an affordable choice for students seeking a four-year degree in Northwest Indiana. In fact, according to thebestschools.org, IU Northwest holds the title of the most affordable in the state.

Yet financial obstacles still exist for many trying to pay for college, particularly older students who are working, raising families, and taking care of other obligations while attending school.

Scholarships are one way to meet this need. There are more than 200 academic and merit scholarships available to IU Northwest students, including several reserved for adult learners, defined as students who are over the age of 24.

Assistance for adult learners
More than a third of students at IU Northwest are over the age of 25. To help reduce their financial contributions and improve their chances of success, IU Northwest is proud to introduce a new Adult Learners Scholarship exclusively for students 24 years old or older. Renewable each year, the scholarship awards up to $2,500 to up to 20 eligible full- or part-time students per academic year, or up to $50,000 total, based on need.

Recipients must hold a high school diploma or general education diploma (GED), and have fewer than 12 previous transferable college credits. To apply, students must complete the free application for federal student aid (FAFSA) and be admitted to IU Northwest by March 1 of the year they wish to enroll.

Another scholarship opportunity available to adult learners is the Emerson Neighborhood Scholarship for students who reside in the nearby Emerson community of Gary. Although not exclusively for adult learners, those over the age of 24 may apply.

Recipients must be an undergraduate enrolled for at least 12 credit hours. The award amount varies and is renewable with a minimum grade point average of 2.7 and demonstrated financial need.

These are just two examples of scholarships available to adult learners at IU Northwest. For more information about additional financial assistance options, call 219-980-6991 or visit iun.edu/admissions/scholarships.
