Lakeshore PAWS Lets the Dogs Out at the 8th Annual Pup Crawl!

This Saturday evening, Lakeshore PAWS hosted their eighth annual Pup Crawl and Dog Walk event for adults, teens, children and, of course, dogs at The Central Park Plaza in Valparaiso.

Participants enjoyed the dog walk, live music by local favorite The Crawpuppies, food vendors, doggie supplies, raffles, and getting to know any of the 20-plus dogs up for adoption.

Jeanne Sommer, Director of Lakehore Paws, said the organization started this rescue in April, 2011. “Today’s event is so great because we not only got to see a bunch of new and old dogs, we were able to experience this amazing community event together with a lot of people.” The organization has been able to connect dog lovers with more than 3,200 dogs that have been adopted since its inception.

“This is a great event and a great way to celebrate Lakeshore,” said Lisa Kusbel, who attended with her son, husband, and dog Lexi. “The socializing of our Lexi with other dogs is really unique because dogs do not get many chances like this to mingle. This is our first pup crawl, and it’s a great way to raise money for the animals in need. The pup crawl portion of the event served as a fundraiser, while all other activities were free.

“The purpose of this walk is to raise funds for the homeless dogs and animals, and to raise community awareness about the many sweet dogs available for adoption,” Sommer said.

Participants of the pup crawl walk were able to register at the entrance of The Central Park Plaza together and receive a complementary T-shirt per family. Each dog owner had the option to walk alone or with their dog.

“Even though this is my first time coming to this event, I was very excited to start the walk around town with my puppy and make some new furry friends along the way,” participant Amy Randolph said.

During and after the walk, The Craw Puppies band provided music to the crowd. Throughout the night food and puppy vendors provided continuous fuel and entertainment for kids and adults alike.
