The Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County introduces a new logo and website to better serve the residents of Porter County.
The logo was changed to a more modern look with various options, making it versatile for the informational and educational pieces created to promote District services.
The new website was designed to help provide residents with easier access to recycling information and resources. The new website is mobile-compatible, which was a limitation of the previous website.
“We understand that people are accessing the majority of information from smart phones and tablets,” said Therese Davis, executive director of the district. “It’s really challenging and time consuming to navigate a website that doesn’t fit or function well on a smaller screen.”
In addition to a new design, the site has a new web address: PorterCountyRecycling.org. The previous address, ItMeansTheWorld.org, is forwarded to PorterCountyRecycling.org until further notice.
“Old habits are hard to break, so people can still find us at ItMeansTheWorld.org,” said Donna Stuckert, public education coordinator. “The new URL reflects who we are and what we do, making it easier for people remember. It’s logical.”
The new site is cleaner, more colorful, and features a recycling directory.
“Among the many services we provide, we function as a resource for people who want to know where they can recycle specific items,” Davis said. “We field calls every day; ‘Where can I recycle this? Where can I take that?’
“We posted the information we know online, so people can find the information themselves, even outside of our business hours. We hope residents find it helpful,” Davis added.
The directory will be maintained and updated based on the knowledge of District staff.
“Recycling resources are in constant motion,” Davis said. “One day, a business will accept a product, and the next day the business is closed. As we’re made aware of new resources to recycle certain items, we’ll make sure they are posted online,” Davis said.
The website also provides an online form for the public to submit recycling resources of which they are aware.
