For years, the Sauers Buick GMC parking lot in La Porte, has been transformed into a sea of vintage and classic cars for the Annual Car Show. On September 10, for the second year in a row, the dealership has partnered with The Salvation Army.
“We use this annual fundraiser to support local organizations that are directly impacting our local population,” said Kim Sauers, owner of Sauers Buick GMC and host of the event. “And we choose the Salvation Army to try to raise some significant money for them.”
The Salvation Army added their own flair to the event with a family fun carnival. Set up in a grassy area behind the parking lot, the carnival included bounces houses, games, and a cake walk.
“The Sauers dealership have done this car show for years and last year they approached us to be a partner,” said Justin Windell, Pastor and Administrator for The Salvation Army. “It’s just a great way to raise money and help others in our community.”
The overcast skies and occasional drizzles didn’t stop participants from showing off their rides or participating in raffles. The Sauers tent was covered with raffle items that included a signed Chicago Bears football, a socket set, and a pair of running shoes. Boy Scout Troop 396 attended the event to sell hot dogs, chips, and drinks.
“Today’s event is for a good cause,” said Bob Braden, owner of a ‘66 Chevelle, “and you meet a lot of people here who share your interests.”
The event continued into the afternoon with families getting the chance to check out these incredible cars and have a great time with the Salvation Army Carnival.
“The only thing that could have been better is if the weather cooperated.” Sauers said.
