Local Communities Awarded Road-Funding Grants
Gov. Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Department of Transportation recently awarded a combined $100 million to Indiana towns, cities and counties to improve their roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program.

Through the program, INDOT matches up to $1 million when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations below 50,000 and cities and towns with populations below 10,000 receive a 75/25 percent match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50/50 percent match.

Below are the communities that were awarded grants in Senate District 5, along with the funds they received.

  • LaPorte County: $636,590.82
  • Porter County: $817,544.51
  • Starke County: $454,002
  • Valparaiso: $1,000,000

These grants are great news for our communities, as they will help make necessary improvements to some of our local roads and bridges. I am eager to see the positive impact they will have on these areas.

In Senate District 5, LaPorte County received $47,000 and Jasper County received $30,800.

This funding is part of the Clean Water Indiana (CWI) grant program, which is administered by the Indiana State Department of Agriculture.

While the projects vary by district need, some examples include promoting conservation and providing water-related education and training in the community.
